Over two years since the sudden passing of pop music icon Michael Jackson, his personal physician is now heading to prison for upwards of four years. The world watched as a California jury found Conrad Murray guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the emotional trial that lasted six weeks.
In the days after Jackson’s passing the world mourned and memorialized with simple and lavish tributes, from placing flowers at his star in the Walk of Fame in Hollywood to the star-studded tribute concert at The Staples Center. The world quickly forgave the controversy that constantly surrounded the infamous pop star and remembered the incredible music he gave the world.
But in the two years since those weeks of remembrance, the world has speculated on the rather strange details surrounding his unfortunate death. While Jackson’s death didn’t necessarily shock anyone, due to his frail build and sickly demeanor, suspicions were raised following the autopsy report and Dr. Conrad Murray, MJ’s personal doctor, became a quick target.
During the recent trail against the doctor, the prosecution showed evidence of Murray’s unusual prescription of the outdated and dangerous drug, propofol, that lead to Jackson’s death. The doctor also was painted as an unsympathetic and greedy figure who collected his salary of 150K per month with little remorse or care for his employer.
The stone-faced Murray sat emotionless as the verdict was read, and the Jackson family cheered at the news which brings of some level of closure to this never-ending drama. Murray’s sentencing is set to be held on November 29th, where he will face up to four years in prison and have his medical license revoked.
