Najib: No General Election this year

KUALA LUMPUR (Nov 11, 2011): Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak said on Friday the next general elections would not be held this year, official news agency Bernama reported.

The next elections are not due until 2013 but there has been growing speculation that Najib could call for snap polls this year or early 2012 while the country's economic growth is still relatively strong, a Reuters report said.

Najib left for Hawaii today to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit.

The aircraft carrying Najib and his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor left the Royal Malaysian Air Force Base in Subang near here at 6.20pm.

The Malaysian leader will be joining leaders from other countries in the Asia-Pacific region at the summit which will be hosted by United States President Barack Obama.
