Steve Jobs nominated for Time Person of the Year

Apple's co-founder Steve Jobs was nominated by "NBC Nightly News" anchor Brian Williams to be Time magazine's Person of the Year. If selected it would be the first time the distinction would be awarded to a person posthumously.

"One guy, who changed our world, and I said to Seth Meyers as we walked across Sixth Avenue, 'Just look with me on this one block walk at how he changed the world around us. Look at how he changed the world.' Not only did he change the world, but he gave us that spirit again that something was possible that you could look at a piece of plastic or glass and move your finger-- that's outlandish. You could make things bigger or smaller like that. 'Oh the places you'll go' and oh the way you will change forever the music and television industries.

So may he rest in peace, Steve Jobs, and the spirit he represents, are my nominee for Person of the Year," said Williams during his nomination speech.

Steve Jobs Was Right About Flash All Along: Adobe To Give Up Support On Android And PlayBook

According to a report published earlier today, Adobe will be pulling support for Flash on browsers for mobile devices.

The news comes from ZDNet – a business and technology news website – in the form of a report in which they cite “sources close to Adobe” who claim that they have been briefed on the company’s future plans. The most notable bit about these “plans” being how Adobe is reportedly looking to stop further development of Flash on browsers for mobile devices such as Android and PlayBook.

The sources sent a “forthcoming announcement” to ZDNet in which Adobe states that their focus from now on would be on their newer AIR technology instead of Flash and that Flash will no longer be adapted for browsers on new mobile devices or new OS versions. This is while current Flash for Android and Blackberry Playbook configurations will continue to see bug fixes and security updates (but not new features).

Mark Zuckerberg Was Coached By Apple Co-Founder Steve Jobs

In many ways they are extremely similar, but the news that Steve Jobs coached Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg still comes as a surprise, with the revelation coming as the Zuck was interviewed for a TV show by Charlie Rose.

Zuckerberg, ranked number 14 on the Forbes Rich List, tells how the late Steve Jobs helped him build Facebook, and even told him how to find the best people to help him take the social network from a little-known college network, to the biggest online community ever built.

Jobs and Facebook haven’t always seen eye-to-eye, with Apple being forced to pull Facebook integration from its Ping music network after the social network blocked access to it due to a wrangle over money. Facebook wanted money from Apple in return to access to its APIs, but Apple, or rather Steve Jobs, wasn’t willing to pay up.

Both Jobs and Zuckerberg have many traits in common, not least the ability to build a successful company while managing to upset those around them – Jobs famously took no prisoners when building Apple to be the force that it is today, and the way Zuckerberg made Facebook into the success story it is today has been one of the most eventful in tech history. Zuckerberg has been sued by numerous people, all claiming to be at least partly responsible for the creation of Facebook.

The fact that Jobs apparently helped Zuckerberg along the way makes you wonder who else he took a shine to. One thing is for sure, and that is the fact that Steve Jobs would not offer his ear to just anyone, and a quick glance around Silicon Valley shows that there are more than a few talented CEOs in the technology industry.

It appears that the reach of Jobs may have been further than we ever imagined.

Steve Jobs book jumps to top of bestseller list

NEW YORK: Walter Isaacson's biography of Apple Inc co-founder Steve Jobs leapt to the top of the bestseller list in its first week in book stores, flying off shelves to the tune of 379,000 copies, according to Nielsen's BookScan.

"Steve Jobs," which came out on Oct. 24 from publisher Simon & Schuster, sold three times more copies than the next-bestselling book, John Grisham's "The Litigators."

In its first week alone the book became one of the year's 20 bestsellers.

It has been a year since any book has sold more copies in its first week. Both former President George W. Bush's autobiography, "Decision Points," and Jeff Kinney's "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Ugly Truth," sold more than 400,000 copies in their first week last November.
