A 13.9-metre-long gray whale was found dead in the sea off Baiqing Town in Pingtan County, southeast China's Fujian Province.
Local fishermen bumped into the carcass and hauled it onto the beach on Saturday.
Many locals, who heard of the news, rushed to the beach and poured water on the whale to cool the body.
Some took photographs of the whale and measured its length.
