Malaysian not interested to improve technical skills

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysians in general are not interested to improve their technical skills.

Disappointed in the poor response to learn new skills and increase competitiveness, Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam said only RM15mil had been applied for out of the RM100mil allocated for the purpose so far.

He said only 6,000 workers were undergoing courses under the 1 Malaysia training programme although the government had expected more people to grab the opportunity.

"Unfortunately, the response has been unsatisfactory until now. I hope workers in all fields will practice lifelong learning as part of their work culture," he said after presenting diplomas and certificates at the Manpower Department Training Institutes' convocation (ILJTM) here on Friday.
